CUTLER INVESTMENT GROUP
We are fond of saying that institutions don’t manage money, people do. Whether you are a foundation seeking to convert passion and money into social change, or are a couple in your 70’s planning a generational wealth transfer, Cutler exists to improve the lives of the people we work for. That is why each day our goal is to do what we say we will, communicate clearly, and let our actions reinforce our commitment to our client’s best interest.
Cutler has always been a fiduciary for our clients. Our professionals have decades of experience managing portfolios, designing investment solutions, and building customized plans to help our clients achieve their objectives. Experience should not lead to complacency, but instead lead to a greater understanding of how to identify what challenges may be ahead. Let’s take those on together.
MATTHEW C. PATTEN
Chief Executive Officer
He was awarded his Masters in Business Administration from the University of Chicago.
In high school, I studied in Germany where I got my first lesson in international finance. Namely, how do I call collect to the US to ask my parents to wire more money (and perhaps more importantly, how do I convince them I wasn’t spending money frivolously)? And thus began an international career in finance that included stops as a Research Analyst in Los Angeles, an Analyst in Hong Kong (looking at pre-IPO listings on the Chinese exchanges), and a Portfolio Manager in Shanghai (responsible for private equity investments), before settling in as an equity Portfolio Manager in Jacksonville, Oregon (an historic town of 2,000 residents known far and wide as a global financial hub). I have been a co-Portfolio Manager of the Cutler Equity Fund since 2003, a job I have shared with my brother for nearly as long as we shared a bedroom growing up.
I live in Jacksonville, Oregon where I am dedicated to serving the youth of our community. I am a Past President for the local Boy Scout Council (Crater Lake Council), Past Board Chair to the Britt Festivals (the Northwest’s oldest outdoor music festival), and Past President of the region’s oldest Rotary Club (Medford Rotary). Most importantly, while my eldest son appears to be a better salmon fisherman, I can still beat both of my youngest sons down the slopes while skiing, a title I expect to relinquish in short order. *Update as of March 31,2018. I am no longer able to beat my eldest son!
Today I serve Cutler as a Partner and Chief Executive Officer of the firm. I am also Chairman and Treasurer of the Cutler Trust, providing oversight of the Cutler Equity Fund.
